VOLUNTEER

The mission of our German Interest Group (GIG) is to help you research and understand your Germanic ancestors wherever they lived. Most months we provide virtual meetings with informative and interesting presentations given by people who are known for their German research knowledge. We also offer the opportunity for Attendee Sharing to talk with others, ask genealogical questions and share success stories.


Volunteer help is always appreciated. At the moment, our most immediate need is for:


Group Leader/Co-Leaders: After 10 years, current GIG leader, Dorothy, is stepping back in June. As Group Leader, Dorothy put in place a model special interest group that now has followers nationally & internationally and just needs someone to take the reins. You will not be working alone. You’ll have a fantastic team of volunteers working behind the scenes to support you, but you’ll be the 'voice' and lead facilitator for our sessions. Dorothy will help with your orientation. You don’t even need to live in the Seattle area, as all our work is done virtually. The role is a rewarding mix of team coordination and direct, hands-on involvement in our core activities. Meanwhile, a big Thanks to our current volunteers and the backup people who 1) obtain speakers, 2) record the meeting presentations, based on permissions, 3) submit publicity, 4) create the list of virtual events, 5) record attendance, 6) maintain our website, 7) update files, 8) perform Zoom tasks, 9) facilitate parts of the meeting, 10) send emails, and 11) perform other tasks as needed. Some volunteers perform several tasks. 

 

We certainly would appreciate a few additional volunteers to share tasks, especially during family emergencies, vacations, etc., and our current needs are listed below. You will work with existing volunteers and most of these tasks require less than two hours. Everything can be done from home.
