Topic: 1816: The Year Without a Summer & Its Impact on German Migration. Presenter Carolyn Schott, CG® discusses how the eruption of Mt. Tambora altered weather patterns and created unseasonably cold temperatures that caused crop failures and food shortages prompting many Germans to seek new opportunities in the U.S. and in the Russian Empire.

We're Turning 40! Let’s celebrate our Group's 40th Anniversary on July 16th in our old meeting room in Bellevue, Washington. Remember Christmas Potlucks? Remember meeting after our in-person meetings? Can you believe we haven't done this since 2020? Significant others are included. As a Special Interest Group (SIG), we have no dues but encourage tax-deductible donations for speaker fees. Active Members have access to recordings of prior meeting presentations and more. Just attend a meeting to join the Active Members Group and attend on a regular basis.
Membership in Eastside Genealogical Society (EGS), our parent society, is also encouraged. Learn more about EGS membership.
DONATE
Since we have no dues, we accept donations to pay some speaker fees. We select speakers, who are known in the German community to share their knowledge. Many have spoken at the International German Genealogy Conferences and other major German societies.
